LandLab Open Studio Tour

October 14, 2017 @ 12:00 pm - 5:00 pm

| Free

A program of the Schuylkill Center and the Center for Emerging Visual Artists, LandLab artists in residence will spend the next year engaging with the Schuylkill Center’s property conducting research and developing creative installations to make an ecological intervention with the land.

Visit Jan Mun and Kate Farquhar during POST (Philadelphia Open Studio Tours) for a hands-on experience, and to learn more about ways in which these artists will be working to remediate the ecological issues found in the 340-acre wooded property.

Jan Mun will help us explore the incredible world of fungi while learning basic edible mushroom wood plug cultivation techniques. Join her hands-on demonstration to help create the upcoming Mushroom Vortex Maze art installation and take a sample home. Try some mushroom tea and consider the many benefits of fungi to boost our personal and environmental health through medicinal mushrooms and mycoremediation.

Kate Farquhar will work with visitors to make indoor/outdoor sitting mats for use at the Schuylkill Center. Instruction will be offered in quilting, embroidery, darning and haberdashery techniques. We’ll work collaboratively on textile arts and engage in conversations that will spring up out of a sewing circle of busy hands. The jute material we’ll use comes from coffee sacks used by La Colombe coffee roasters.
