Delaware Valley Green Schools Symposium
Connecting people and resources to grow greener schools

Spend a day with colleagues from the region learning successful strategies for implementing green initiatives at your school.
  • Connect with leadership from PA and NJ Green Ribbon Schools and green industry professionals.
  • Learn how to get green building projects off the ground and running.
  • Gather ideas and strategies for integrating green technologies into your curriculum.
  • Be inspired by keynote speaker Stephen Ritz of the Green Bronx Machine. See him in action.
  • Earn Act 48 credit hours.
Symposium partners include the Delaware Valley Green Buildings Council and the PA Association of Environmental Educators.

Teacher Workshop: Engaging Students through Nature
SAVE THE DATE: July 24th, 2013, 9:00am-3:30pm

Learn strategies to increase student engagement and enrich learning across subject areas by integrating nature into your curriculum.

  • Choose from concurrent sessions for pre-K and lower grades or middle and upper grades.
  • Participate in field studies led by SCEE staff.
  • Share favorite outdoor learning experiences and activities with your peers.
  • Take home FREE resources.
  • Earn Act 48 credit hours.

The Delaware Estuary � Where the River Meets the Sea

The Schuylkill Center is partnering with the Partnership for the Delaware Estuary to provide teachers with top quality opportunities to explore and learn about the Delaware Watershed.

Workshop I � Estuary Explorer
July 10th � 12th, 2013

From our streams to the mouth of the Delaware Bay, come with us to explore the Delaware Estuary�s magnificent outdoor classroom! Meet in Salem, NJ and Dover, DE. Travel from Dover, DE to spend the night in Lewes, DE. Participate in hands-on classroom activities, including lessons by the NJ Department of Environmental Protection on nature�s finest water filter � shellfish! Explore a wetland restoration site. Tour an oil spill response boat. Learn native garden/outdoor classroom how-to. Seine the Delaware Bay. Enjoy an overnight in Lewes, DE (FREE accommodations provided).

Workshop II - Urban Waters
July 16th � 18th, 2013

Learn about balancing the needs of our cities with healthy waterways, and how you and your students can help. Meet in Philadelphia, PA. View presentations by local experts. Participate in hands-on classroom activities, including some from Project WET. Discover aquatic animals and stream health through chemical and biological studies. Explore Philadelphia, including tours of Philadelphia�s water treatment plant, Fairmount Water Works Interpretive Center, and examples of greening projects. Learn about the NEW Green Schools, Clean Water Curriculum!!!

Earn approximately 15 clock hours for each workshop.

Requirements for participation:
Must be a K-12 classroom teacher or environmental educator from a school (public or private) or other organization within the Delaware Estuary Watershed. Must be able to attend all three days of the workshop.
