Summer Camp

The Schuylkill Center for Environmental Education offers two exciting, environmentally-based summer camp programs: Nature Ramblers for younger children and Adventure Treks for pre-teens and teens. All camp programs are run by experienced environmental educators and offer children and teens unparalleled opportunities to explore the natural world and their connection to it.

2012 Nature Ramblers Summer Camp Brochure

Based on 340 acres of diverse habitat, our Nature Ramblers Summer Camp provides children aged 4 to 9 intimate and ongoing access to forests, fields, streams, ponds and even an organic farm garden.  Nature Rambler campers explore the natural world through hands-on discoveries, hiking excursions, art, play, field trips and more.
All camp programs are led by experienced environmental educators, with an educator-to-camper ratio of 1:6 for the four- and five-year olds and 1:8 for older children.  Our educators work with each child to foster his/her understanding of and appreciation for the natural world.

Mind-TV produced a great short program about the Schuylkill Center’s Down on the Farm camp programs, which are part of the Nature Ramblers Summer Camp.  Click here to view the program Down on the Farm.

2012 Summer Adventure Treks

The Schuylkill Center’s Summer Adventure Treks challenge pre-teens and teens to improve their outdoor knowledge and skills in a comfortable and supportive setting.  Participants learn more about themselves, strengthen self-confidence, and gain teamwork skills while exploring the outdoors in unique and fun ways.  They’re continually challenged in very safe and incredibly fun environments under the guidance of experienced instructors and outdoor guides.

Each adventure begins on our picturesque grounds, 340 acres of fields and forest, streams and ponds.  Participants get to know each other, then embark on three- or five-day outings, depending on the age group, to state parks and national forests along the east coast.  During the day, we’ll explore the area and participate in organized activities—rock climbing, hiking, canoeing, kayaking, whitewater rafting, backpacking, caving, mountain biking, and more—while evenings are spent by the campfire discussing the day’s adventures.   As each week’s destination and focus change, campers experience a huge variety of activities and ecosystems.

All of our Adventure Trek activities, their duration and intensity, are specifically designed for adventurous youth.  Equipment needs are minimal:  sleeping bag, day pack, and clothing packed in a backpack or duffle.  The Schuylkill Center provides all specialized equipment.
