Community Gallery Show at the Schuylkill Center Showcases Local Environmental Artists

PHILADELPHIA In celebration of devoted members, volunteers, and friends, the Schuylkill Center invites community members to submit artwork to a winter 2017 gallery exhibition, Community. Community will open the gallery doors for a salon-style exhibition. The Center welcomes artworks of any medium, style, theme, or concept, but encourages artists to submit pieces that relate to nature and the environment, and especially those that depict or relate to the Schuylkill Center itself.

While revealing the multitude of creative ways Philadelphians engage with nature, Community will paint a crowd-sourced portrait of the Schuylkill Centers friends and neighbors. We wanted to provide an opportunity for artists in our community of all stripes to be celebrated in our gallery, says Director of Environmental Art, Christina Catanese. We have such a rich and diverse community of makers in our network, and we wanted to give back to the people who support us. We couldnt do what we do without volunteer, staff, member, and visitor support.

The gallery show, opening with a reception on January 26 at 6 pm offers local artists the opportunity to participate in a collective exhibition connecting people with nature in transformative ways. The Schuylkill Center invites community members to submit work until December 15. There is no submission fee and all artists who submit will be shown in the gallery.
