Volunteering at the Wildlife Clinic

It's almost Spring, and time for our yearly Volunteer Recruitment orientations. Would you like to be a volunteer at the Wildlife Rehabilitation Clinic (WRC)? To start, all you have to do is come to one of our Volunteer Orientation sessions (details listed below). At the orientations, you will be introduced to the WRC and get a behind-the-scenes view of what actually happens. The purpose of this is to give you an idea of what to expect BEFORE you commit to joining our team...we give you plenty of time to fully consider your decision!

Volunteering at the WRC can be some of the most fun, spiritually rewarding, challenging, entertaining, and educational things you'll ever do in your life. You can learn things in Wildlife Rehabilitation that you simply cannot learn anywhere else...it isn't in any books, college professors and veterinarians don't know it, and wildlife biologists and naturalists haven't caught up with it yet!  Nowhere else on Earth is there such a unique, intense interaction between human beings and wild animals...we are interacting with them and caring for them, and simultaneously maintaining and respecting their wildness, never taming them or anthropomorphizing them. It is not a place for people who want to pet 'cute fuzzy things'; it is, however, a place for people who care enough about the things we're doing to our planet and it's creatures to want to help in a direct, tangible way.

Still, for all its wonder, volunteering in Wildlife Rehabilitation is hard, dirty work. You will learn more about the consistency of animal droppings than you ever thought possible! You will roll up your sleeves, scrub cages, and feed lots of hungry little mouths. If you can commit to a 4-hour shift every week, we hope that you will join our team!
