We will celebrate the winners of our 2023 Youth Meigs Award, which recognizes local environmental youth leaders who embody a spirit of leadership, integrity, and vision. This year, the winners Harmoni Robinson and Chloe Cantiello from Walter B. Saul High School and Josephine Schirling from Lankenau High School will present their creative responses to the word prompt "Adapting" in the form of a short story, video, and poem, respectively. Artist-in-residence Susan Hagen’s solo exhibition, The Bird Ethic, is opening in our gallery and on our trails October 7th. Hagen’s diorama-inspired outdoor sculptures capture historical moments in bird conservation, bird science, and humankind’s impact on bird populations, guiding guests to take action to repair our interconnected world. Join the Schuylkill Center for the opening of our brand new exhibition, Slow-Burning Rapture. In Slow-Burning Rapture, artists dissect and create personal, cultural and nationalistic myths in order to make sense of our ecological future. With vast references from mythology and mysticism to Afrofuturism and worldbuilding, each artist plays a part in helping unravel the complexities of an altered world. When the toads emerge from brumation (the reptile version of hibernation) in early spring, hundreds of them cross Port Royal, Hagy’s Mill and other nearby roads to mate in the Roxborough Reservoir or the Schuylkill Center’s ponds.
