Thank you for your interest in Schuylkill Center's Native Wildflower Seed Packet Design Contest!

SUBMISSION

Free and open to everyone of all ages and skill levels, we invite you to share with us your horticultural imagination and design in response to our new Native Wildflower Seed Packets. Member Seed Packets are distributed with every new Membership Packet. They will be seen by hundreds of Schuylkill Center Members and guests annually! The contest will run from July 28, 2021 through August 20, 2021.

FAQs

  • Who can apply?
    This call for submissions is free and open to everyone of all ages and skill levels, and of all media fitting into the format of an image.
  • Do I need to be a professional artist?
    You do not need to be a professional artist, every design will be considered.
  • What are the specifications for the packet design?
    We would need to receive the design as:
    1. A vector-based EPS is the preferred file format. (created in Adobe Illustrator or InDesign CS6 or earlier)
    2. High resolution JPG or PDF files are also acceptable.
  • Is there a template that I can use?
    Yes, the template can be found as a PDF attachment HERE. IMPORT THIS 8.5"x11" PDF TEMPLATE into your seed packet layout application, such as Adobe Illustrator, InDesign or Photoshop at 100% as a guide for designing your seed packet. If using Adobe Photoshop, please set up your file at 300dpi at 8-1/2"x11".
  • Do I need to include the Schuylkill Center Logo?
    Yes, and the logo can be downloaded below:

  • What other additional information needs to be included in the design?
    The following information must be included in your design:
    1. Native Northeast Wildflower Mix
    2. Directions: Sow seeds into a prepared garden site of approximately 20 sq. ft, after the danger of frost is past. Press seeds into soil and water regularly until plants are well established.
    3. Contains: Blue Wild Indigo, Brown-Eyed Susan, Butterfly Milkweed, Eastern Columbine, Evening Primrose, Gayfeather, Golden Alexander, Hairy Beardtongue, Indian Blanket, Lance-Leaved Coreopsis, New England Aster, Rigid Goldenrod, Showy Tick Trefoil, Slender Mountain Mint, Smooth Aster, and White Upland Aster.
    4. Lot D Packed in 2021 Sell by 06/2022 Net Wt 300 mg. AMS 5060
    5. Schuylkill Center for Environmental Education, 8480 Hagy's Mill Road, Philadelphia, PA 19128 (note: do not include the name and address of Earthly Goods as seen on the template)
  • What additional information do I need to submit?
    Please include a couple of sentences about yourself along with your design.
  • Do I have to be a member of the Schuylkill Center?
    No, this contest understands community as a larger public with a common interest in exploration and discovery of their surrounding nature, as well as through those connected to the mission and ideals of the Schuylkill Center. But we’d like to encourage you to become a member - join here!
  • How many designs can I submit?
    Please only one submission per person.
  • What happens after I have submitted my image?
    The Schuylkill Center will pick the winning design after August 20, 2021 and the winner will be announced in early September 2021.
  • How much does it cost?
    This contest is free, but if you would like to make a donation to support The Schuylkill Center please send your donation via postal mail (check payable to the Schuylkill Center) or online here. (Purpose: "Seed Packet Design Contest". Thank you!
  • What will the winning artist receive?
    The winning design will receive a $200 prize, year-long membership at the Family level, and a feature in The Schuylkill Center's Environmental Art Blog in September 2021.
  • Who should I contact with any questions about the contest?
