UNLOCK ─ An in-progress performance by Propelled Animals

August 6, 2021 @ 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm

Free

After two-weeks of residence at the Schuylkill Center the performance group Propelled Animals will present the in-progress performance UNLOCK. The performance is part of the group’s multi-year effort to creatively decolonize natural spaces through visual art and dance. They will roam and lead a guided procession centering on environmental justice, anti-racism, and healing lineages. Collective members Esther Baker-Tarpaga, Raquel Monroe, and Heidi Wiren Bartlett in collaboration with guest artists Tchin, Crux, and Emma White Thunder will interweave in their performance dance, music, and guided experiences for audiences to witness and join in.

Founded in 2014, Propelled Animals is a group of artists, dancers, scholars, musicians, and designers who embed innovative and provocative art in unconventional spaces. They are committed to creating work that interrogates and challenges systemic oppression. Their work is centered on art as social action and ritual as performance. www.propelledanimals.org

* Please Note*
Audience members should be prepared to walk, sit, and engage with the artists. This is an outdoor event happening around dusk. For audience comfort, we encourage members to carry water, wear insect repellent/longer sleeves, and comfortable walking shoes. Refreshments will be available.
