Art Opening Companions

Celebrate the opening of the new interactive art exhibition and installation “Companions – mas masarap magkasama” at the Schuylkill Center for Environmental Education with a foraging walk, Filipino folk music and conversation with the artists.

This opening reception includes a new gallery exhibition and outdoor installation created by Maria Dumlao and Bahay215 (Nicky Uy and Omar Buenaventura). In a series of interactive photographs and a site-specific installation—inspired by bahay kubo structures in the Philippines—the exhibition explores and ushers in dialogue around how we find ourselves home. Identifying and incorporating native and invasive plants into familiar ancestral recipes, the artistic team balances sustainability with cultural preservation. The event will take place indoors and outdoors. Light food and refreshment will be served.
