Meditation with Blue Banyan Yoga

June 22, 2014 @ 9:00 am - 10:30 am

$75

Discover the restorative powers of nature and the deep, lasting benefits of meditation in this 4-week series, set outdoors. Katy Hawkins will companion you on a dynamic exploration of your own mind, offering numerous guided exercises to explore the principles and techniques of sitting meditation and the related practice of walking meditation. We will experiment with modes from several different contemplative traditions, from Zen to Quaker to Tibetan to Ignation.  If practiced consistently, meditation yields results that are clear, immediate, and very far-reaching. As we refine our attention to the operations of the mind “on the cushion,” we are able to work with thoughts and emotional states in our everyday lives a more balanced way. Open to new and experienced practitioners of meditation alike.

Member & Blue Banyan class card holders price: $67
Registration is for full 4-week course.

Katy Hawkins meditation teacher

Katy Hawkins, PhD, is a Philadelphia teacher of meditation and yoga. Her doctoral dissertation in Comparative Literature came to focus on Eastern frameworks for understanding mind/body relations. After teaching at Dartmouth, NYU, and Temple University, she left academia to focus on teaching the integration of body and mind. After training in Shamatha/Vipassana and Zen traditions, she returned to the Quaker heritage in which she was raised. This 4-week series (like the bi-annual weekend retreats Katy leads at Pendle Hill) offers a playful, warm-blooded approach to experimenting with meditative modes from across traditions.
