Slow-Burning Rapture Virtual Performance by Jordan Deal & Artist Roundtable

March 21 @ 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm

Join us for a virtual performance by Jordan Deal of their sound installation piece titled “Letters to a Post-Post-Post World Broadcast,” currently featured in Slow-Burning Rapture. The performance will be followed by an roundtable discussion with artists featured in the exhibition, moderated by curator and Director of Environmental Art Kristina Murray.

Jordan Deal’s site-specific sound piece, “Letters to a Post-Post-Post World Broadcast,” situates the listener in the near-distant future. Reminiscent of a radio show, the chopped broadcast radiates debris and remnants of field recordings, chants, black classical compositions, indigenous folk songs, and love poems of resistance in global liberation struggles. Deal’s sound piece contributes to the storytelling movements of worldbuilding and the black imagining, creating an audible trail of artifacts that have led to the collapse of order and the halt of exploitative technological advancement. In Slow-Burning Rapture, artists construct personal and communal tales, interrogate nationalist epics and envision future topographies through material play. By responding to our body of historical environmental myths, tussling with our current geological age, and forecasting a post-natural world, they build their own distinct, multifaceted myths.
