Franklin Institute's Derrick Pitts to Explore the Stars at Winterfest December 13
November 24, 2014

PHILADELPHIA As a wintery cold sets in, and the hours of light dwindle, the Schuylkill Center is teaming up with The Philadelphia School to offer this year's Winterfest on December 13, from 3 8 pm. Celebrate the night sky at this star-themed family festival, with crafts, night hikes, and a special visit from Derrick Pitts of the Franklin Institute.

Start the afternoon with star ornaments and an exploration of the cosmos, then stop by the campfire for s'mores. Meet animals from the wildlife clinic, see the stars up close through a telescope, and step into the twilight forest for a night hike. The evening wraps up with stargazing with Derrick Pitts, who'll explain the winter stars and point out planets, natural phenomena, and more. There's something for all ages, so dress warmly and come celebrate the season and the beauty of nature at the Schuylkill Center.

Cost: $7 (discounts for Schuylkill Center member and The Philadelphia School students' families).
