SPOTLIGHT: Jeff Hayes

Jeff Hayes and his wife, Kelly Davis

Jeff Hayes is an architect with an office in Chestnut Hill, specializing in residential design and historic preservation. Jeff has been involved with the green building community for many years including helping to found and serving on the board of the Delaware Valley Green Building Council.

Jeff also spends time coaching Cross Country at Germantown Friends School. He and his wife, Kelly Davis, live in Mt. Airy with 2 corgis and 3 cats. They are recent empty-nesters with two daughters in college.

"I have been on the Board since the summer of '07, and chair the Building and Grounds Committee. I also sit on the Executive and Art Committees. Building and Grounds takes most of my time as we have over 300 acres of land and aging buildings‹ we are currently building a new fire pond and green house, planning a new entry road and a urban agriculture initiative, and have studied ways to increase our energy efficiency including the scheduled replacement of the boiler. The Art Committee is a nice counterpoint to B&G, and I am continually impressed by the high quality and thought provoking art that SCEE sponsors.

SCEE is important to me because it's local and our mission is felt right here in Philadelphia. I like the energy, the staff and the attitude towards preserving and restoring the natural landscape and educating the public about environment issues that are so critical to our times. SCEE is a treasure more people should know about, and I hope that through my involvement I can in some small way help to strengthen this institution.
